The debut album by French duo Claudie Dada, La Pensée Javel will be released 1st April 2022 digitally, and as a limited CD release through Sounds et al.
Claudie Dada (Félicie Bazelaire and Lucie Laricq) aim to compose music that is both demanding and beautiful, captivating and unusual. The project has been developed live, with the duo collaborating on a broad but precise vocabulary, clear musical intentions established through improvisational performances. They are also fond of unexpected, unusual sounds, and do not hesitate to use them in a clownish way. Playing with the ambiguities of musical setting, performative techniques, a discussion between girlfriends, the telling of an anecdote, the reading of an except from a feminist book…
Until the release of La Pensée Javel this project has manifested entirely in live settings – during transit in Toulouse train station, apartments here and there in Montreuil, Paris, Rouen, a shared bicycle repair workshop, during a demonstration against global security law in Toulouse, 26 Chaises in Paris, Studio Caracol in Bagnolet, in residence at PiedNu.
The improvisational music is intentionally absurd. Creating a colorful space to perform, and putting the audience at ease by taking away the theatrics of the concert setting; a diversion to the often challenging approach of contemporary music performance.
Claudie Dada are Félicie Bazelaire (cello/ voice) and Lucie Laricq (violin/ voice – sung, shouted, whispered/ khên/ sound objects – Sophie the giraffe, toys for dog and cat/ solitary organ pipe/ whistles/ earrings/ rattle/ meditation balls/ kazoo/ electric toothbrush).
